Approximately one out of every two American men and one out of every three
American women will have some type of cancer during their lifetime. Whether it is
a personal battle or the struggle of a loved one, it is an unfortunate fact that cancer
will have a profound effect on each of our lives. As the fight rages on in hospitals and
research facilities, we ask ourselves: What can we do? What little part can we play?
For 20 years, the Students’ Government Association (SGA)of La Salle University has
held its annual Basketball Marathon to raise not only awareness of cancer, but also
to raise money for advancing research and revolutionary cures. In 20 years, the Students’
Government Association has raised more than $100,000 for the American Cancer
Society with the Basketball Marathon.
The Marathon is an event in which hundreds of students, faculty, staff, and
other members of the La Salle community sponsor their own basketball teams and play for the chance to ” give everyone a rebound!”
