Following a tough weekend of losses against Bucknell and Colgate, the men’s tennis team traveled to Bronx, N.Y. to take on Fordham University in their A-10 opening matchup.
Despite a victory for junior Francesco Mowrey in the top singles spot, the Blue and Gold ultimately fell in their conference opener to the Fordham Rams 6-1.
Mowrey earned his third singles match win of the spring season on Saturday after defeating Fordham’s Lutwin de Macar.
Mowrey was triumphant in straight sets, 7-5 and 6-4, to give La Salle their only point of the evening.
The freshmen pair of Connor Merrill and Rogelio Gonzalez earned a win at No. 2 doubles for the Explorers, however La Salle eventually lost the doubles point to go down 1-0.
Additional efforts came from Gonzalez who won a set in the No. 3 singles spot against Fordham’s Fabian Hansch Mauritzson. Gonzalez, however, ultimately dropped the match in three.
Likewise, sophomore Patrick Pascual won a set in the No. 6 singles spot against Fordham’s Alex Makatsaria, but also dropped the match by three.
The Explorers currently sit with a 0-5 overall record and a 0-1 conference record for their spring season.
The Blue and Gold will look to break their five match losing streak on Thurs., Feb. 15 against Drexel beginning at noon.
